#VACTROLS
I'm a circuit bender. I started in 2009, and yes, I do use LEDs, but in the form of vactrols for modulation. These days, I'm building a full desk for electronic music and plan to make more of these devices. The idea is to produce an album 😎

this sounds a lot like the process for converting a guitar pedal design for modular, for those who'd rather not involve vactrols. you end up with a maze of analog switches and delicately balanced JFETs

ironically the only module we can think of that's a liscenced product... does use vactrols. and i don't blame them, it's the easiest and least invasive option

Yeah and going back owe it I think this is really the best LPG model — at least in VCV land. Sounds vactrol-y!

Glad I own the Doepfer module too though as those vactrols are getting hard to come by. I would gladly trade all earthly possessions for LPGs.

It was great to see you as well!! Curious speaker setup! 🤷‍♀️
I think TipTop Audio was the first company to clarify the vactrol ban in the EU/UK. Make Noise have the DXG & now the QXGs. TipTop Buchla 292t has vactrols & I think offer one without for EU sales. Not sure how strict the ban is on Eurorack.

oooooh! Love me some Vactrols! I've put together my own after purchasing a 0hp Vactrol LPG kit that didn't ship with a number of key components. Mine were not as fancy lookin' as these.

Did you slightly melt the end of that LED? Did you know that nowadays Vactrols are banned in the UK (maybe the EU as well) due to Cadmium content? 🫤

the day I learned I could roll my own vactrols as a teenager was so huge to me

those things are expensive and you usually need a bunch of them!

oh yeah i love vactrols! they’re so silly but so clever 🙂‍↕️

Here's the panel graphics for an octuple 4-pole high-pass (switchable, that's the middle holes) filter with select-at-build-time cutoff frequencies. Switching is done with Vactrols so there won't be CLICKs

Ever wonder what two oscillators would sound like if they modulated each other through vactrols? Probably not, but I did. So I built this module to find out!

oof, that's a bummer! such a fun little box

vactrols are super easy to futz with though so it should be DIY-solvable

It's bloody magic. Its insane. Everything is either [too basic to make sense] or [such a complete reversal and abuse of what this component is for that it makes no sense]. Have you heard about vactrols yet.

hey wait i could just drive some vactrols with the TL074s in this control circuit and expand the limiter to four channels

Just posted some code for an arduino nano clock, ideal for noise maker equipment or synth.
Outputs 0.5s square pulse between 1-10 seconds based on potentiometer positioning.
Perfect for vactrols or circuit bending.

I needed a small clock circuit that could provide a 0.5 second square wave pulse with a variable frequency... somewhere between 1 second and 10 seconds to reset an isd1820 sound module. So i had to wr...

Damn, so close. 6hp, but very useful in many cases. Sounds good, too, for a passive.
