I’ve been 10% annoying about my #lookingforwork saga on bluesky but I find boredom to be really bad, and I feel much more fulfilled when I am contributing to a project of some sort. Bug bounties and VDPs are fun, but it’s side income, not a full time job.

I love the adoption of VDPs and the free/low cost VDPs that platforms are offering but I beg you please don’t stop allowing disclosures via email as well 🙏

Most games are working. DIPs are working. The composition of the 2 VDPs is a little hacky at the moment. Instruction ROMs are partially working but have a bug. No data persistence yet so high scores don't stick around.

Was up in Woodfields earlier @cheeseford.bsky.social - the VDPs are definitely gone, replaced with an Austin Princess and an Austin Cambridge.

Early video game consoles didn't have "GPUs" like the ones that modern consoles have. They had VDPs (Video Display Processors) which handled putting visuals on a screen, but they weren't parallel processors and so couldn't do 3D graphics well.

No, it's actually a fairly accurate statement. In fact it's a direct quote from developers at the time, including Sega's own internal dev teams.
The Saturn was designed as a 2D machine, but the incoming PlayStation had them go back to the drawing board and add the dual VDPs. So the Saturn is-

Probably the greatest cx rider of all time, with an argument to be made for Vos, tho I think Vos was a better all around rider where VdPs CX ability is basically unparalleled. Sven was more consistent, but raced way more and didn’t have the big worlds Ws.

That wasn't completely accurate, programming for Saturn wasn't fundamentally that different from other systems, but the early development kits made it less feasible to utilize both CPUs and VDPs. Then with Sony making it by comparison so easy to work on PlayStation, a myth became perpetuated.
