This evening I attended a poignant and moving #VE80 / #VJ80 commemoration concert at Coventry Cathedral with Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
A powerful tribute to those who defeated fascism, and a stark reminder that its threat remains, even here in the UK. We must never stop resisting it.

This Thursday, Londoners and visitors are invited to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day on Trafalgar Square.
After sunset the square will be lit up, reflecting the same searchlights used in 1945.

Nurse Barbara Sutherland from Kirtomy served as a Queen Alexandria Imperial Military Nurse during #WWII.
Signing up in 1942 she boarded the SS Ceramic headed to South Africa with 29 other QAIMNs. Their ship was torpedoed off the Azores with the loss of 656. #VEDay #VEDay80 #BettyhillWarMemorial
