Half of it is Irankunda needing to learn/improve his temperament obviously, the other half is...the dissonance of playing reactive passive ball while wanting to turn him into a starter.

Weird to not see the boys playing their usual attacking style tonight…they seem to be taking one too many touches, which results in them getting pushed back every time. Definitely need to lift for the second half… #Socceroos #VENvAUS

I forgot the third favourite reductive and self-fulfilling crutch to use in place of more uncomfortable and introspective scrutiny of our brain thinking in football ‒ "this is just how international football is, don't expect anything pretty".

And speaking of the end of Chipperfield at LB, instructive shoutout to how he suddenly looked very old there at WC 2010 and was of better use back further forward in spurts of gametime in the little time he had left at NT level. Similar for Goodwin now. #VENvAUS #Socceroos

As Venezuelan/Australian, I can say that the #socceroos really wasted an opportunity here. I really thought they'll be more positive against a team full of kiddos. That being said, it's good to see there's a future for #lavinotinto. The 'chamitos' showed a lot of promise.

It also hurts being someone who has a soft spot for a back three and how much managers who rigidly stick to it (regardless of it being unhelpfully prone to turning into a way too passive back five) then give it a bad name and make it look more suboptimal/unwise than it can be. #VENvAUS #Socceroos
