I can sigh and lament how the stupidest, ugliest, most hateful people have the power to ruin lives & do so with glee. Instead, I'll have my comp class watch & discuss Vershawn Young's performance, Your Average Nigga--rebuking the white supremacists who would police my classroom discussion.

The lowest hanging fruit is, of course, the reading assignments. It's easy enough to populate the reading list with writers from marginalized communities. We also read writers writing about their home language, like Vershawn Ashanti Young and Amy Tan.
