It's not just VFC. Private insurance takes their cues from the ACIP regarding which vaccines are reimbursed.
Daskalakis: There is a program called Vaccines for Children. It is the safety-net program that gets vaccines to kids. Over 50% of kids in the U.S. get their vaccines through this. If the ACIP says this vaccine should not be given to six-month-olds through 12-year-olds, the VFC won’t buy it

Just received an email that the VFC program has extended it's coverage for RSV vaccines (Beyfortus and Enflonsia) through the end of April due to a later RSV season this year (still testing above 8% nationally).

That’s the problem. It doesn’t make sense. They should not be trusted to make policy recommendations. VFC providers have to adhere to ACIP recommendations. Who knows what it means if there is an ACIP recommendation that doesn’t comport to the VFC resolution?

While #ACIP now discourages the combined MMRV shot for young children, the VFC program will still provide it, creating a conflict between the recommendation and coverage. 10/

"not recommended" means not covered by VFC = huge equity disparities between privately and publicly covered children. "Sorry, you want this FDA-approved vaccine, but because your kid has Medicaid, he can't have it." #acip

#DYK? CDC's #Vaccines for Children (VFC) program is estimated to have helped prevent almost 500 million illnesses & over 1 million deaths. VFC provides vaccines to families that can't afford them. Cuts to HHS could jeopardize VFC, while HHS Sec RFK Jr is undermining vaccine confidence across USA.

This is a friendly reminder that Medicare does not usually pay for childhood vaccines, it’s Medicaid, VFC, private insurance or CHIP, unlike what RFK Jr has said. He’s claiming that 36,000 doctors had their Medicare reimbursements altered based on childhood vaccination rates.

In 100% of cases until now (as far I’ve ever seen), the VFC program vote is essentially a pro forma vote following a recommendation vote simply to align coverage language in the VFC program’s guidelines (‘resolutions’) with whatever recommendation changes were just approved.
