ok, VHDL is a kind of Lua

Also, wow, the VHDL grammar is whack,

you sure can tell it's an ADA decedent and DoD project.

Also fun fact, VHDL 87, which was the first standardized version, was ratified from the existing 7.2 version of VHDL.

VHDL is ooooold,

Should I relearn VHDL? 🤔

I have a strong desire to write VHDL for a DDR memory controller that supports RAIM à la System Z, and I have neither a VHDL toolchain nor an FPGA (or associated additional hardware) to get myself deep into integration hell.

oh shit is that just like gamified VHDL?

Nostalgia alert! Adam Taylor recreated Space Invaders entirely in VHDL. The game runs on a Digilent Arty A7-35T board and uses a Pmod VGA to generate a 640x480 VGA display.
Space Invaders on Any Arty Board Using VHDL and Pmod VGA
Lets create a 640 × 480 Space Invaders-style game in VHDL, no processors just as the original in gates. By Adam Taylor.

It's an FPGA-based board that lets you program the application, driver, and hardware layers in Lua, C, and VHDL/SystemVerilog, and it starts at $29.

Oh please, *real* FPGA programmers use VHDL. /s (I'm kidding. I've never used either. I have browsed articles about both, and neither are my cup of tea.)

I've seen comp sci programs pivoting to high-level stuff like "how to work with AWS", where my education was "data structures and algorithms", or "building a whole CPU in VHDL" and... I'm worried we're losing the fundamentals.

Also I love how squished the VHDL acronym is,
