Vor vielen Jahren hatte ich auch schon mal eine gute Eingebung und habe alle "VideoCDs" und "SVideoCDs" als richtige DVD neu gebrannt. Scheinbar kann man VideoCDs heutzutage gar nicht mehr abspielen oder auslesen.

Back in the 2000's, I quite liked producing 3D animations influenced by 1980's computer games.

But, back then, computers were pretty weedy, the only way to show user-generated videos was to burn VideoCDs (resolution 352x288), and YouTube could only... 1/8

Tonight having another retro night. Been connecting up some old tech from years gone by.

Another DVD player. A lovely champagne This Sony is DVP-S735D. Sadly this one doesn’t play DVDs any more. Didn’t think of trying the CDs and VideoCDs.

It is a third thing, since Software Sculptors (founded by Media Blasters John Sirabella no less!) used Quicktime encoding for these video CD-Roms. They released at least a dozen different titles on the format before being absorbed into Central Park media. VideoCDs used MPEG-1 iirc.

Also, this does not produce VideoCDs. Instead of ISO9660, this shoots AVI video on a UDF filesystem.

That's cool! Here's one I inherited from my grandparents that can play VideoCDs along with some CDs I got recently.

I got a 550 CD-i in 1998 super cheap to watch VideoCDs. Still have it. Same with my 3DO I bought at that time.

I remember skipping lunch, so I could save my lunch money, and buying a 5 pack of CDRs for like CAD$20 at Wal-Mart. All so I could burn VideoCDs, so I could watch downloaded anime on my DVD player.

VideoCD is quite the intriguing format. It tried to become popular in America during the mid-90s, but then DVD came along and put an end to that in the US. Still, CD/DVD burning software has the ability to burn VideoCDs using video files on your computer! A good way for experimentation, I think! 😁

I was big into making VideoCDs in "the day". Now I look at the results like "how did I think this was decent" and I remember I didn't have my Threadripper back then with gig internet and 4k screens
