Didn't like this one after watching the Vipco VHS in the 90's. But the longer runtime on the @arrowvideo.bsky.social bluray helped me understand & appreciate it more.

I know they didn't produce films, but I see the Shudder logo and I flashback to seeing the Vipco logo on a VHS....

I'm sure it would be incredibly crass of me to review this with "the Britbox Project" but... it's VIPCo, and it's just as quality as anything else VIPCo's ever released...

Blimey, I had no idea.
My interest in it comes from the chap Mike Lee who did it first in '87. Vipco was a very important video label for me.

I guessed as much. Was giving background to this and VIPCO founder Mike Lee. He released Gremloids in the UK and stood as Lord Buckethead, but VIPCO was notable for nasties and annoying Mary Whitehouse, the BBFC, Mail and Tory govt by releasing Cannibal Ferox, Driller Killer, Zombie Flesh Eaters etc

VIPCO, owned by Mike Lee, released it in 1986, and was still pushing it during the 1987 election. Lee was last heard of in a care home, suffering from, if I remember correctly, dementia
Right. Okay. This requires some backstory. In 1984, a small, low budget film studio in North Carolina produced a parody of Star Wars, called Hyperspace. It was released in the U.K. as ‘Gremloids’. The main character, shown here, was Lord Buckethead.

Mike Lee who ran VIPCO had a film called Gremloids and stood as Lord Buckethead against Thatcher in 1987. The character was revived and became a 2010s sensation, then the original producer of the film got wind and asserted ownership/IP, so Lord Buckethead became Count Binface instead

Maybe it’s just because I recently read about how Vipco released GREMLOIDS/HYPERPSACE in the UK on home video, but—I would genuinely love to read about that movie’s cult fandom in England in light of Count Binface’s current, uh, prominence

Not enough people know that Count Binface was first known as Lord Buckethead, a character in an 80s sci-fi film and originally stood in an election in 1987 portrayed by video distributor VIPCO head Mike Lee as a promotional stunt for the release of Gemloids.

This takes me back to a time where my shelves were all Vipco, 4-Front (Budget label that Woolies often did 3 for £10 on) and a ridiculous amount of ex-rental vids.
