Very new train smell on this one.
Well well well. VLine have converted one or more of their broad gauge VLocity sets to standard gauge to strengthen their existing standard gauge fleet to relieve overcrowding on the Albury line. Test runs are scheduled next week.

For many years, trains almost always used platform 1, but nowadays, with 40 minute intervals off peak (more frequent in peaks) both platforms are busy. Up trains often use platform 1 and Down trains platform 2, but not always, and trains normally cross inside the station. (6/15)

Just west of the station, the line becomes single and heads up towards North Ballarat junction from where is a branch west to Wendouree and Ararat, and another north to Maryborough. (10/15)

They've been good, but technology has moved on. Time to plan for a newer design of train that reduces reliance on diesel.

2006: XBox 360🕹️ and Happy Feet🐧 released, Adam Goodes won the Brownlow🏈, and on 3rd Feb, the first VLocity trains ran on the Geelong line.🎉
19+ years later they're still making VLocities. They've served us well, but it's time to look for a more modern design of train🚄⚡️

At the down end of the station is the Lydiard St North level crossing. Until 1971 it was a tram/train level crossing, and until a train runaway in 2020, it had Victoria’s last operational swing gates. Now it has modern booms and bells. Note the preserved semaphore signals too. (7/15)
