The Vietnam Veterans Against the War helped keep the peace during the DNC. The VVAW used highly disciplined, symbolic tactics, leveraging their status as veterans to highlight the moral cost of the war. However, other militant factions wanted direct action and vowed to shut down the RNC. /3

Cheap therapy.
No clubhouse, no bar, no quasi military stuff.
Just a bunch of guys trying to live with their ghosts together.

We also have an American tradition of setting aside these ethical norms to call attention to larger issues when times aren’t normal.
Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW) made this part of their M.O. in the late 60s/early 70s.
