This is just objectively the exact opposite of the truth. Every serious effort to actually quantify the ideological valence of political violence has found the reverse of what Vance claims.

OBAA is only nominally about radical politics, which it views as a lens through which to consider what it’s really interested in, which is the terror of bringing a child into the world, a question that will always have a political valence but not EXCLUSIVELY a political valence.
It’s fine to critique OBAA’s politics but I don’t think there’s a real tension (in the movie or irl) between being a radical and being a good parent. Pat actually checks out of both roles for too long and winds up in a pot haze where he doesn’t remember his passwords *or* know what his kid is up to.
