Ukraine highlighted that Valieva trains at a skating school run by Tatiana Navka, wife of Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. Navka has been sanctioned by the EU since 2022 for supporting Russia’s war.

RUSADA was like "we looked into Eteri and she said she had nothing to do with this, so obviously this singular doping incident must be because Valieva was deceived by people outside the rink" and WADA was like, cool, that sounds legit, Eteri can continue on.

The end result was a total meltdown in the free skate. Valieva fell on half her jumps and barely made it through. Her teammate, Sasha Trusova, took silver and was pissed that it wasn't gold, leading to her calling her coach Eteri a cunt on international live broadcast.
