#Vanyar
The Vanyar obviously.

Mate, my mental conception of this is only a little more sophisticated than magic elves carrying buckets of bits.

I think we basically have the Sindar (wood elf archers), Noldor (deep elf warriors) and Vanyar (celestial weirdos) representing 5G, fibre and satellite respectively.

IIRC the War of Wrath lasted something like forty years. So most of them grew up in the middle of the apocalypse, with the remainder mostly knowing a subcontinent dominated by Morgoth.

(I hope Nienna sent some Vanyar therapists.)

The Vanyar seem like they really are above it all, and there are whole groups of Moriqeundi that just wander off into distant lands and are happy spend thousands of years staring up at the stars.

But yeah, the Noldor can be a lot.

But there's more: "There the Light-elves and the Deep-elves and the Sea-elves went and lived for ages, and grew fairer and wiser and more learned"

And so among those that went West, there was a three-way division: Light, Deep, and Sea.

Decades later we learn the names Vanyar, Noldor, and Teleri.

Thingol: You Noldor sure are a contentious people.

Fëanor: You just made an enemy for life!

All the Vanyar are in polycules

“Technically, Gandalf is one of the Maiar which are like archangels. They were created by Illuvatar but they’re just a level below the Ainur. Now let me tell about the different houses of the elves. See there’s Noldor, the Vanyar, and…”

Vanyar, Noldor, Teleri, Eldar, Avari, Calaquendi, Moriquendi… ¿cómo se organizan los Elfos de Tolkien?

If we used the Zodiac system of Earth instead of Nirn, he would be a third-decan Gemini Sun with a Scorpio moon and an Aquarius rising. He has an INTJ personality type. He has a true "resting Altmer face." I named him after Ingwë from the Silmarillion, the king of the Vanyar Elves.

Also, I feel like Galadriel would look around at the Vanyar jewelry and be like "What is this trash? Celebrimbor's cat coughed up nicer stuff than this."

the Vanyar are High Elves, right?
August 19, 2026 at 2:07 PM
There's a reason that the Vanyar are the most boring kindred of the elves.
imagine being galadriel and turning up like

yeah just spend the last several thousand years building a kingdom, fighting cosmic evil, you know how it is

and all your long-lost relatives have just been basking in the light of the valar like hypnotoad and idk making jewellery

That the "legends" are so much more prominent because (while no one save maybe Cirdan and some inaccessible Vanyar remembers Cuiviénen), the Quenta Silmarilion is well within "living memory" for the chroniclers, while also fanned by the awe of their juniors.

Concept study for Elvish Fashion

Fëanor & Curufin: Noldor informal daywear inspired by Baroque/Rococo European Aristocracy

Vanyar, Noldor, and Teleri are racial categories.

KARL: What is that?
RANDY: That is an army of teeny-tiny Vanyar being led out of the west by some really BIG fuckin' guy.
KARL: Huh.
RANDY: Yeah.
KARL: So, how much-
RANDY: It's all real. All of it. Everything.
