Venetian forces of the #FourthCrusade attacked #Constantinople on #ThisDayInHistory in 1203, briefly taking a section of the walls before being forced back by the #VarangianGuard. Emperor #AlexiosIII took a much larger force out to meet the #Crusaders, but chickened out and fled.

But serving the emperor remained a tempting proposition for the northern warriors.
