this rum is absolutely exceptional and at $60 it is a steal. as good as many of the other limited La Maison & Velier bottlings that go for twice as much.

Came across this today. The remaining Caroni rum offered at auction in 2008. While a substantial amount of rum was for sale, including 5388 casks, several major players had already made purchases, presumably of the best lots. Among them, Angostura, Main Rum, Velier, and likely Bristol.

I have a Velier MMW 11 year I usually use when the recipe calls for a rich Jamaican in smaller proportions. Next time I’m doing Appleton Rare (or P. Xayamaca) for this one. I’ve seen. And been envious of the bitters you’ve posted before.

Yeah those I could understand. I'm triggered instead, for example, by the regionalisms that are still going strong in our days, like boia and pită. Some are entirely unexplicable for me, like corabie - what were they thinking of replacing it with? Velier?

In an exercise of sheer indulgence on our last London trip, I picked up a bottle of the Scheer/Velier MMW 11 year Jamaica Vatted Single Rum. It’s a monster 69.1% and I’m using it whenever a small amount of Jamaican is called for.
