Betelgeuse changes shape in step with Siwarha, the star orbiting inside it
Radio maps from the VLA and ALMA show the red supergiant's atmosphere has bounced back from the Great Dimming, and that its slight oval shape tracks Siwarha, a companion star that orbits through it.

NEW: What Lurks Within the Shadows of Betelgeuse?

Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse … 👻 You can say it three times, but new data (NSF #VeryLargeArray and #ALMA) suggests that its recently discovered companion star, Siwarha, is the one doing the haunting.

What is the #ngVLA?

The Next Generation Very Large Array (ngVLA) is a proposed, much more capable radio telescope array inspired by the NSF NRAO's #VeryLargeArray. The project proposal calls for 263 dishes across North America (most in the US Southwest).
