Camperdown elm (oh & Edinburgh Castle).

This classic contorted beauty is one of several wych elm varieties found close to the Parish Church of St Cuthbert in West Princes St Gardens, #Edinburgh. Its 'weeping ash' neighbour deserves to be admired too.

Too lovely a day today, not to venture out into the Forest, even for a short time…

One tree. Two seasons.

Our favourite veteran beech in #Backmuir Wood just outside Dundee.

Perfect for sheltering, singing and dancing beneath - we've tried them all!

Thick trunk with a view? Don't mind if we do!

This is beautiful Glen Lyon - home to many veteran trees.

These two mature birches have developed characterful bark, textured with ridges, cracks and layers that reflect their advancing years.

Trees always fascinate me as living connections to such long gone times ❤️ Just imagine all the moments this incredibly beautiful tree has witnessed over its long, long life...

The Big Tree of Rockport, Texas

A Live Oak (Quercus virginiana) estimated to be up to 1,000 years old, so already alive 500 years before the European history of North America even started

Some stunning veteran field maples in a lapsed hedgerow at a site yesterday. What a treat!

A 'phoenix' yew tree, Perthshire. A sculptural survivor. Many trees in Scotland's climate continue to grow thanks to unlikely physiological adjustments to their new positions. They're often called 'phoenix trees' i.e. they rise from the ashes! Amazing resilience.

A couple of the 3 pollarded willows at Owston Meadows. The fourth sadly collapsed 😔, we don't have time repollard these this year, but will try and do it next year so we don't have any more losses. #VeteranTrees

(Collapsed one not entirely dead, and still good dead wood habitat).
