IBEW Local 3’s Chris Erikson Jr. on Supporting Veterans | Helmets to Hardhats & Vets4Vets Impact
At the heart of everything we do through the ULA Network Foundation’s Vets4Vets Community Construction Project is exactly what Chris Erikson Jr. Business Manager for IBEW Local 3, so powerfully shared—ensuring our veterans are never alone when they come home. Chris reminds us that the transition from military service to civilian life is not something our heroes should navigate by themselves. Through the strength of our union community, partnerships with programs like Helmets to Hardhats, and the leadership of unions like IBEW Local 3, we are building real pathways—pathways to careers, stability, purpose, and family-sustaining union jobs. His message highlights something deeply important: So many veterans simply don’t know what opportunities exist. That’s why this work matters. From direct entry apprenticeship programs to veteran support networks and union training centers, these initiatives don’t just create jobs—they restore purpose, build community, and honor the sacrifice of those who served. We are incredibly grateful for Chris’s leadership, his unwavering commitment to our veterans, and his belief in the power of union labor to change lives. Together, through collaboration and shared mission, we are strengthening not only our unions—but the futures of the men and women who have given so much for our country. This is what solidarity looks like. This is what impact looks like. #unionstrong #IBEWlocal3 #veteranssupport #helmetstohardhats #vets4Vets #ulanetworkfoundation To learn more visit: https://hubs.li/Q04hyHz90 https://hubs.li/Q04hywF50 https://hubs.li/Q04hyrgk0

Supporting Those Who Served — Through Union Skill, Brotherhood & Community At the heart of the New York Building & Construction Trades, there is a commitment that goes far beyond the jobsite — it’s about showing up for our communities, our veterans, and each other. Through the ULA Network Foundation’s Vets4Vets Community Construction Project, we are proud to stand alongside the men and women who have served our country — helping restore and revitalize the very spaces they rely on for support, connection, and peace of mind. This week, we were honored to be on-site at a VFW Post 6478 in Queens, where union volunteers came together to complete meaningful remediation work — transforming an outdated facility into a safer, more welcoming environment for veterans. Built with Pride. Driven by Purpose. A special thank you to the incredible union brothers and sisters who donated their time, skill, and heart: IBEW Local 3 Veterans Club Cement & Concrete Workers District Council BAC Local 7 Tile, Marble & Terrazzo UA Plumbers Local 1 NY From installing new tile work to upgrading essential spaces, these skilled professionals didn’t just improve a building — they reinforced a mission. As one volunteer shared on-site: “We’re not just updating a bathroom — we’re creating a space veterans can feel proud of again.” Why This Work Matters Many VFW Posts across New York are aging and in need of repairs. These facilities are more than buildings — they are lifelines for veterans seeking: Community and Camaraderie Access to critical services A place to reconnect and heal Through Vets4Vets, union tradespeople are stepping up — veterans supporting veterans — using their skills to give back in a meaningful, lasting way. A Movement You Can See From before-and-after transformations to on-the-ground storytelling, the ULA Network is committed to capturing and sharing these moments — showcasing the power of union labor and the impact it has on real lives. Building Brotherhood & Sisterhood Beyond the Uniform At the NYC Department of Veterans' Services, the mission is clear—no veteran should ever feel alone after their service ends. And through the work of Commissioner Yesenia Mata, that message continues to resonate across New York City: There is still brotherhood and sisterhood beyond the military—and unions help carry that legacy forward. At the ULA Network Charitable Foundation, our Vets4Vets Community Construction Project is built on that very belief. We are creating more than projects—we are building pathways, purpose, and community. By bringing together union veterans, skilled trades, and community partners, we are: Restoring and rebuilding community spaces like VFW halls and veteran centers Connecting veterans to union apprenticeships and career opportunities Providing access to peer-to-peer support, resources, and services Reinforcing the message that no veteran is left behind Commissioner Mata’s story reminds us what unions truly represent—dignity, protection, and opportunity. Her father’s journey is one shared by so many: finding strength in a union brotherhood when the odds felt stacked against him. That same spirit lives on today in every veteran who finds a new mission through the trades. “In and out of uniform, there’s still brotherhood and sisterhood.” That’s what Vets4Vets stands for. Get Involved: This is just the beginning.
