Schaeffer coffee edition VFM fountain pen is an excellent choice in the under $30 price point. The included converter is a bit small but it looks sharp and vintage and it’s very smooth writing

Government is hopeless at procurement and contract management because both are driven by political priorities not effectiveness or VFM.

Also highlights a point I spend a lot of time on in my book - the government is woefully bad at managing private contractors who endlessly rip us off. This is not more efficient.

Maybe instead of drowning PT priority measures in OBCs/SBCs/VfM development hell we could JFDI and get a network that can cope with the basics.
I'll be long dead before that happens but I will still stamp my feet until someone listens.

Appealing to what I always wanted to do and thus raise money/cut spending: Easy (at least, unless I have to do it)
