#VicForests
As of last year it was Bill Paul.

But given his previous position as VicForests' Director of Environmental Performance lol, don't expect much. 🙄

An AI-based analysis of 20 years of VicForests’ logging, researchers say, shows the scale of failed regeneration in Victoria’s state forests.

The data, which has been shared exclusively with the ABC, suggests that 20 per cent of Victoria’s state forests have not regenerated after logging.

They axed VicForests, but the bulldozers are still rolling. Wombat Forest is being trashed under the guise of “salvage”. This is public land, not a free-for-all. Stop the lies. Stop the logging. Legislate the park. #StopTheSalvage #WombatForest #VicGovFail

Enjoying Bluesky. Proud owner of 61 hectares of conservation property. Doing battle with the pigs, deer, foxes, rabbits, cats, blackberry etc. Not fond of FFMV which is Vicforests latest incarnation. They are also not fond of me strangely. :-)

Good article thanks Euan. (Can also feel your pain).
But despite your sound suggestions I still feel this doesn't bode well. Govts must do more.

Consider salvage logging. Vic Gov allows storm salvage logging in the Wombat SF even tho VicForests is defunct.

So post fire too?

I've seen this script before.

FFMV is populated by ex-Vicforests staff, and the contractors are pretty much all Vicforests. The respect for the environment is about zero. The amounts are money being flowing around are huge. Pretty much people are waiting on the Integrity bodies to drop a devastating corruption report to the gov

Industrial logging has left a devastating legacy across native forests in VIC with logged areas failing to regenerate & failure rate increased over time. #VicForests was legally obligated to regenerate the native forests it logged over the past 20 years.

Logging devastated Victoria’s native forests – and new research shows 20% has failed to grow back
Forest logging records, satellite data, on-ground surveys and drone photography show nearly 20% of logged areas in Victoria failed to regenerate over the past 40 years.

Only through gritted teeth. The court cases imposed conditions in VicForests operations which it would never be able to meet. It wasn't closed down over a sudden concern for the survival of our native species.

This is far from just an historical problem, it’s ongoing. Labor and the LNP have engaged in/supported science suppression. For example www.abc.net.au/news/2023-08...
Investigation finds VicForests hired private investigator to 'collect dirt' on environmentalists
An investigation by the Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner has concluded that VicForests hired a private investigator to conduct surveillance on environmentalists and an academic.

Maybe the biggest reason for hot fires out of control fires is that the forests have been logged and created way more flammable forests. Logged forests always burn at higher severity www.theage.com.au/national/vic...
The state government is increasing our bushfire risk right now
In allowing VicForests to perform salvaging in Wombat State Forest, the Andrews government is increasing the likelihood and severity of bushfires. It must stop today.

This is not a new story. It is currently happening in Tarra Bulga, Won Wron and other reserves nearby. I found the story while researching VicForests and other illegal logging near Tarra Bulga. Logging truck convoys 2-4am are too sus to ignore.
It is happening now.
