This article presents a curated collection of 30 photographs highlighting American actress Victoria Principal during her early career in the 1970s, a formative decade that shaped her path to international fame. Born Vicki Ree Principal in 1950, she moved to Los Angeles in 1970 with the ambition of pursuing acting. Shortly after arriving, she began landing notable roles that demonstrated her range and screen presence. One of her earliest major recognitions came in 1972 when she portrayed Marie Elena in “The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean,” a performance that earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Most Promising Newcomer. Throughout the early 1970s, Principal continued to build her profile in Hollywood. In 1973, she gained additional visibility while promoting her role in the comedy film “The Naked Ape,” including an appearance in Playboy magazine. In 1974, she appeared in the disaster film “Earthquake,” where she made a striking physical transformation by cutting her long hair into a short Afro and dyeing it black to fit her character, Rosa Amici. Despite these opportunities, several of her films underperformed, leading her to step away from acting temporarily. During her break from acting, Principal worked as a Hollywood talent agent for approximately two years and even considered pursuing law school, viewing acting as a means to fund her education. She eventually returned to acting in 1977 with a guest appearance on the pilot episode of “Fantasy Island.” Her career reached its defining moment in 1978 when she was cast as Pamela Barnes Ewing on the hit CBS soap opera “Dallas,” which became a global phenomenon and established her as a household name throughout the following decade.
