Gratitude pose unlocked 🙏 This European Ground Squirrel in Vienna’s meadows appears to be giving thanks for the dandelions.

Kestrel keeping watch from the headstone

Whilst out searching for hamsters, I wasn’t the only one on the lookout for them. This Kestrel was part of a pair looking for their breakfast.

A Common Kestrel perches on top of a grey stone post against a vivid green bokeh background. The bird has warm orange-brown plumage with dark brown spotting and streaking, a pale cream underside, bright yellow eye ring, and yellow feet. The bird faces right with an alert expression.

Really proud of this close up portrait of the European Hamster, such a beautiful moment to see them in person 🐹

An extreme close-up portrait of a European Hamster foraging in grass, facing the camera. The hamster has striking tricolour fur — chestnut-orange on the face and sides, pale cream on the cheeks, and dark black on the underside. It holds food in its front paws with large round dark eyes and pink ears clearly visible. A soft dark green bokeh background frames the animal.

The Souslik (European Ground Squirrel) is unfortunately another threatened animal that can be found in Vienna

I found this one foraging on dandelions after recently coming out of hibernation

Found him! 🐹 A European Hamster peeking through the grass in Vienna. These guys are the main reason I visited.

Unfortunately they’re critically endangered with the grasslands around the capital being one of their last strongholds

A European Hamster peeks out from dense green grass, partially hidden by the blades. The small mammal has warm brown and russet fur, large rounded pink ears, prominent dark eyes, and long white whiskers. Bright sunlight illuminates the surrounding lush grass.
