#Vietnamese-American
Just realized that it’s a very white American-coded character asking a Vietnamese-American-character for forgiveness. LAYERS

#OTD in 1973, John McCain was released after over five years in North Vietnamese captivity. He refused early release until his fellow POWs were freed.

John McCain is a great American hero.

I'm a Jew. I live quite easily with neighbors who are Christian, who are Chinese-American, Vietnamese-American, Japanese-American, Iranian-American, Mexican-American, and randomly white (yes, there's another Jewish family on the block, too).

Dale Partridge can go fuck himself with a chainsaw.
I quite happily live in a neighborhood where most people do not share my religion, where multiple languages are represented, and where people have come from a lot of different countries.

Bigoted assholes always assume everyone else actually shares their bigotries.

This makes American consumers pay higher prices while the Vietnamese pay less, what a deal.
July 2, 2025 at 4:05 PM
worth pointing out, again, that a 20% tariff on Vietnamese imports alone (our sixth-largest trading partner!) would have been considered the worst trade war in modern American history pre-Trump. Instead it is now treated as a "deal". How far we've fallen.

IT’S HAPPENING! Derek Tran has passed the hateful and corrupt Michelle Steel in #CA45.

Not only is this a red-to-blue flip if this holds (and it should), it’ll be the first time a Vietnamese American holds the seat representing the biggest Vietnamese American population in the US!

"Trump's Vision of Perpetual Imperial War"

Pulitzer Prize-winning Vietnamese-American novelist Viet Thanh Nguyen reflects on how the war in Iran shows, yet again, that the U.S. has learned the wrong lessons from Viet Nam.

Some good news, for a change.
Pope Leo has made his first bishop selection, a Vietnamese-American immigrant in San Diego, who has immigrants’ rights as one of his important issues.

Pope names San Diego's Michael Pham first Vietnamese-American bishop in U.S.
Michael Pham, 58, is currently an auxiliary bishop in the diocese; he was ordained a priest in the San Diego diocese in 1999.

american vietnam veterans and vietnam war fans are way more mad at the vietnamese than the vietnamese are mad at american soldiers or the american government, it's honestly astounding

Bishop Michael Pham, Pope Leo XIV’s first appointment, and first Vietnamese American to lead an American diocese, is calling on people of faith to stand with immigrants.

He joined immigrants at the San Diego courthouse today in solidarity, and ICE left empty handed.

Or, the American War, as the Vietnamese call it.

When Saigon fell on April 30, 1975, generations of Vietnamese people were forced to flee an oppressive tyranny in search of democracy. Their courage and sacrifice built the foundation for Vietnamese-American communities that now help shape our nation.

No single photograph -- not even the Napalm Girl photograph -- could change the course of the war. And if you talk to Americans today, the true cost of Vietnam to them is American lives lost, not the horror that was inflicted on the Vietnamese.

He's the gateway drug. Next you'll be watching the videos of the lionfish spear fishers and that extremely excitable Vietnamese American lady who goes crabbing and clam digging for her mom.

BREAKING: Trump announced a trade deal with Vietnam where American businesses will pay a 20% tariff on imports, with costs passed on to us as consumers through higher prices, while Vietnamese businesses pay nothing to import from us.

Sounds like a really terrible deal.
