An 18-acre wildfire in the Coast Range off Highway 26 drew firefighting crews from three counties, water-scooping planes and a helicopter Wednesday afternoon, closing Hagg Lake to boaters so the planes could pull water from it. By late Wednesday night, firefighters had lined the blaze, now called the Wolf Creek Fire, with a hose line and turned it over to the Oregon Department of Forestry, the Elsie-Vinemaple Rural Fire Protection District said. The Washington County Sheriff's Office closed the lake to all watercraft until 7:30 p.m. so the planes could work. “Please keep the lake clear so they can work safely,” the office said. Crews got a line around the fire after nightfall. “Firefighters were able to completely line the fire with a hose line just after dark,” the district said in a 10:15 p.m. update. “This incident has been turned over to ODF, the fire will remain staffed all night. Smoke may still be visible in the area tomorrow but resources will remain on scene.” Crews stayed on the fire overnight and would remain through Thursday, the district said. “We will update our page if any conditions change,” it said.
