Go ahead and tell me that you'd be shocked to hear a New York or New Jersey accent coming out of actual Roman Emperor Vitellius.

Je sais pas ce qui est pire, que quelqu'un ait eu l'idée de faire un décapsuleur avec la tête de ce pauvre Vitellius, ou que quelqu'un qui ait hérité dudit décapsuleur confonde ledit imperator avec Napoléon

#ClassicsTober24 Day 26 - Vitellius

Rome descended into chaos after the death of Nero and Vitellius ruled from April to December in 69 CE. He was the most successful contender for the purple in Rome but Vespasian had the greater military support which sealed Vitellius’ fate…

#OnThisDay - 18 July - in AD 69 Vitellius took office as Pontifex Maximus. Tacitus (Hist. 2.91) notes that the date was considered unlucky, being the anniversary of the Battle of the Allia. 🏺

The bloomin onion alone would have immediately killed every Roman Emperor except maybe Vitellius
Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar couldn't even begin to dream of the Bloomin Onion. The average citizen of a modern country lives a more opulent lifestyle than the Emperors and Kings of old!

My favourite Beowulf fact is that the British Library's shelfmark for it is Cotton Vitellius A.xv, which means that Robert Cotton kept it on the set of shelves that were surmounted by a bust of Vitellius, the 15th book on the 1st shelf (A).

Why yes, I am always in demand at parties, why do you ask.

JW: The Terror of Rome Against the Son of Hercules (1964) aka Maciste, Gladiator of Sparta - Mark Forest stars as Maciste, although for some reason in the English dub his name is Poseidon. He fights in the arena for the amusement of the Nero-like Roman Emperor Vitellius (Franco Cobianchi).
