It really does since I'm a massive fan of dark/anti hero designs and the dark is not evil trope. Its a top two Digimon for me but I also love both #Heliosboamon and #Volvemon as well since classic #mecha design tropes are really fun to me personally, #Atratusmon is badass!! #digimon

Volvemon could be interesting from the angle of humans making it for digimon that THEY engineered to try and see if they can simulate the type of evolution wild viruses, turned digimon, on the network were doing.

I interpreted Volvemon as an origin for evolution, not connected to the past lore, because they "recently" retconned the experiments from studying already existing Digimon (1) to creating them (2).

Be it Digimon that only got profiles or that only had a role in some stories, like Liberator, they have created so many of the "super powerful beings that began it all" and are just escalating higher.
I see Volvemon as the current conclusion of it. I can't even imagine what they'll do next.

In general I'm averse to the urge in mega-franchises to retroactively insert "the super powerful first guy to do the big thing that later became normal, and every instance of that thing is thanks to them". You see it a lot in hero media, and both Volvemon and Ukkomon carry that... fragrance to me.

Yeah, this is why I made it clear that my commentary on Volvemon is only about the profile's narrative and the projects directly related to it at a development level, not a critique of Digimon Beatbreak.

And yet, I know that Volvemon isn't an out-of-nowhere concept. The narrative and lore throughline that resulted in it has been in development for almost 10 years already, but lately that development has only brought more things I can't help but dislike.

I can't find anything in Volvemon that makes it work with what I enjoyed about Digimon. It makes no historical or narrative sense, as "Digimon" were evolving creatures before the Digital World, being discovered, or even being Digimon. So using it as an origin is a drastic retcon.

And this is what makes me dislike Volvemon. To me, evolution should be an inherent trait that defines Digimon's very mode of existence. Stories might not explore it or even block it, but don't make it as if it wasn't there from the start, even before Digimon were Digimon.

I can easily accept historical incongruences if other factors, like narrative and themes, are interesting enough. My problem with Volvemon is that it's a Digimon that breaks every single parameter I look at in Digimon in one way or another, with no redeeming qualities.

This environmental AI, not yet called Volvemon, absorbed, compressed, and released data to make the world cycle, creating variables in the environment that stimulated the early digital lifeforms to change, evolve, and influence the experimental space to become the Digital World.

I would like to correct you on Volvemon, as it would be more accurate to compare it to Mew, though it wasn't the first digimon, instead it had the ability to change data from 1 thing to another, and when it was no longer needed it gave that ability to digimon at that point in time

A lot of people would talk about the actions and unexpected events such as Volvemon. Do I wish the second half of #Beatbreak was better pacing wise? Absolutely but I can still say its my favorite series and honestly that speech from Atratusmon was one of the most memorable yet funniest speeches. 🤡🤣🤣
