This 1947 specimen book quite literally fell out of a ceiling during renovations.

Created by Charles Niles for a botany class nearly 80 years ago, its pages preserve pressed plants collected across East Tennessee and an extraordinary piece of botanical history.

A handwritten label records Charles Niles as the collector at Dicks Creek in Walland, Tennessee, on April 17, 1947.

I agree with the traffic assessment, which is why I only ride on weekday mornings when I do. My usual routine(s) are either get on 129 at the 411 junction or take FH Parkway. Ride to Deals and have lunch then either a circle back via the Skyway to Vonore or Cherokee via Robbinsville.

I couldn't make it to the path of the 2024 eclipse (and it was overcast here), but the 2017 one went right through my home town, and we had perfect weather for it...
