Astronom*innen haben mit dem JWST die Atmosphäre des merkwürdigen Exoplaneten WASP 107b untersucht und Wasser, Schwefeldioxid und Sandwolken entdeckt. Bei diesen Beobachtungen wurden erstmals chemische Spuren von Silikat-Dampf entdeckt, der Wolken in großer Höhe bildet

Barstow: we expect to see methane as the major carbon-carrier in cooler planets, but reality is proving more complicated...

* WASP-80b: ✅ (yes)
* WASP-43b: ❌ (no)
* WASP-107b: ⁉️(yes, but 100x lower abundance).

A team of astronomers used JWST to study the atmosphere of the strange exoplanet WASP 107b and detected water, sulfur dioxide, and sand clouds. These observations detected for the first time chemical footprints of silicate (sand) vapour forming high altitude clouds.
