Washington must build a statewide [AI] baseline that ensures each student becomes AI-literate while still giving teachers power to decide how AI fits their class. buff.ly/YVd1ZwF mercerislandscools.org seattleschools.org lwsd.org ospi.k12.wa.gov #WAedu seattletimes.com
WA school AI policies are stuck in the 2010s, not prepping us for tomorrow | Op-Ed
The pullback on AI use in some school districts means Washington’s schools are preparing us for the job market of the 2010s instead of the present.

Our Head Start program cannot access their funding. The rotten mango POS & his drug-addled Nazi have shut off the money to Head Start in Washington State. #waleg #waedu

Any school district that has bonds on the ballot this month is about to get royally fucked over due to the tRump tariffs. All construction supplies will cost 25% more, labor will be harder to find, & construction plans are going to have to be revamped & scaled back. #waleg #waedu

34 math tests times 11 minutes per test = 6.24 hours of grading THAT I DON'T GET PAID FOR.
If I only had 21 kids it would be 3.85 hrs of grading. #waleg #waedu

None of our finalist schools are specialty arts schools, charter schools, or private groups. They are just plain old underfunded comprehensive public high schools with kick-ass directors & kids who work their asses off. #waleg #waedu

Thank you to Oliver, Megan & her kids for advocating at the Capitol to tax the uber wealthy to amply fund WA’s schools! 🍎 Thank you to @banglang.bsky.social, @organizewithshaun.bsky.social & Rep. Alvarado for meeting with them #waleg #fundwaschools #waedu #wealthtax @paramountduty.bsky.social

Blast from the past. My kiddo advocating in 2015 for amply funded schools, paying teachers well, and a longer lunch. As relevant today as it ever was. (You don’t have to be on FB/meta) to watch.

Excellent work, Treasure Mackley & Stephan Blanford!WA voters strongly support asking the wealthy to pay more and education—early learning, public schools, trade programs, and higher ed—all need more funding and support!

Thank you to Seattle Public Schools Special Education Dept and psychologist for a very informative, helpful, and to the point meeting early this morning. 💜

Reminder that so many wonderful workers in addition to teachers make our public schools and kiddos strong. #waedu

Some others in #waleg that served on school boards so understand how the state funding deficit and model affects schools are: Rep My-Linh Thai, Rep. Lisa Callan, Sen Claire Wilson, Sen T’wina Nobles. If I’m missing any please respond! #waleg #waedu

Washington MUST develop and vote in new progressive revenue in the 2025 legislative session. Public schools were already underfunded, especially special education and transportation. And with Trump likely slashing funding, the situation is dire. #waleg #waedu

There are many wonderful reasons that public education is a bedrock of democracy. The Trump admin wants to crush public schools and the array of programs for dual language learners, special education, and services for homeless children. Washington must step up NOW #waleg #waedu

At the North Seattle College Work Source Office, there is a plaque to Rep Frank Chopp honoring all his deep support of these necessary programs. #waleg needs to amply fund #waedu and all these other important programs so that all Washintonians can thrive

Think homelessness is an issue now???? Just wait and see what happens is the fed govt cuts special education, vocational rehabilitation services, and Social Security. Disabled people and there families will be left fully adrift. #waleg must step in and step up on #waedu
November 11, 2024 at 9:03 PM
I voted for WA’s Governor Elect Bob Ferguson. I believe he needs pressure from parents, teachers, and public school advocates to be great. He said WA must “adequately” fund #waedu even though as AG, he knows the constitutional commitment is to “ample.” He’s also squishy on revenue, like wealth tax.
November 11, 2024 at 8:53 PM
Washington has what’s called the “Paramount Duty” clause which means that WA’s constitution commits that the State will amply fund public schools. But #waleg isn’t even adequately funding #waedu right now. Special education funding is woefully inadequate and has a cap on identified students.
