On Saturday, 7 November, I will be running a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon around the theme of Byzantine women & genderqueer saints. I hope that this workshop will help to improve the coverage of women and LGBTQ+ history on Wikipedia.

What did #WCCWiki do in April? LOTS!

First off, a new #Wikipedia page for Eirene Varoucha-Christodoulopoulou (1896 – 1979), an archaeologist and numismatist. She was born on the Greek island of Paros & was 1 of the 1st women to graduate from the University of Athens in Archaeology #WCCWiki

In Jan 2024, #WCCWiki edited or created 💜13 💜#Wikipedia articles for non-binary & women classicists (very broadly conceived)!

My July #WCCWiki project (only just finished) was a page for Mary Clara Dawes, the first woman in the UK to get an MA, and a classicist with particular enthusiasm for teaching ancient languages as 'living' language! Before her time!

Lots of the women I wrote about are numismatists and archaeologists, inspired by #WCCWiki, to ensure that there is easier access to the works of amazing women scholars 🪙🏺💅🏻
We've just published a new @york.ac.uk Open Research in Practice case study 📝

@lucymoore.bsky.social challenged herself to improve the representation of the lives and achievements of women on @wikipedia.org by contributing an article for a woman from every country in the world 🌍
