Wells Fargo Lifts Microsoft Price Target to $725, a Street High, on AI
Wells Fargo just put a number on Wall Street's bet that Microsoft is the safest way to play the AI trade: $725 a share, the highest target on the Street, even as Michael Burry warns the whole boom could burst within a year. Wells Fargo analyst Michael Turrin raised his price target on Microsoft to $725 from $700 this week, keeping his Overweight rating and, according to TipRanks, setting the highest target among major Wall Street firms covering the stock. Turrin's reasoning wasn't a vague nod to "AI momentum." He pointed to something specific: Microsoft's decision to reorganize its reporting segments in a way that gives investors clearer visibility into Azure's actual cloud revenue, plus a slate of product announcements expected at Microsoft's Ignite conference later this quarter. That's a meaningfully different call than the one Wells Fargo made back in June, when it first floated the idea that Microsoft's homegrown AI push, rather than its OpenAI partnership, could drive the stock to new highs. The target has moved twice since: up to $700, and now to $725, tracking Microsoft's own results more than any outside hype cycle. And the results have been hard to argue with. Microsoft's fiscal Q4...

L.A. considers the rare closure of an active oil site in Jefferson Park
In a city that was built on oil and remains home to over 2,000 active wells, zoning officials are considering a first: shutting down an oil production site. Residents of the Jefferson Park neighborhood just south of the 10 Freeway have been fighting for more than decade to close the 32 closely-packed oil and gas wells at the Murphy drill site, run by Bakersfield-based E&B Natural Resources. It has a history of air pollution violations running from before the current operator took over to this year. The city’s zoning administrator is now weighing whether to revoke the operator’s permit. Momentum has been building toward phasing out oil in Los Angeles for years, but the city has never rescinded a permit before. “This is our opportunity. We have a small window,” said the Rev. Eddie Anderson, senior pastor at the McCarty Memorial Christian Church nearby. He has firsthand experience, he says, with the health consequences of living next to an oil production site. In 2020, he moved to Jefferson Park following the advice of his mentor, civil rights leader the Rev. James Lawson, to live closer to his congregation in the historically Black neighborhood, now majority Black and Latino. But soon...

I’ve gone for Sheela-na-gig, because it’s the most common, and gives non-Gaelic speakers some idea of how to pronounce it (although I did find one website that suggests it’s pronounced like ‘ghee’ at the end). But basically, your guess is as good as mine
