The point is to create a record. This is helpful for diplomatic purposes. Also, the WGEID can sometimes get information from the government that lawyers and family can’t about their missing loved ones.

El Salvador's Report to the WGEID becomes a Serious Problem for the US government. NB: contra El Salvador's claim, an international agreement cannot exculpate state officials from any international crimes, including the crime against humanity of enforced disappearance. 👀

The Trump administration still disappears immigrants in less extreme situations that can result in their inability to contact a lawyer or allows the government to more easily deport them without due process. These situations, too, can and should be reported to the UN WGEID.

Paank is deeply concerned by d reports of enforced disappearances in Karachi, Pakistan, involving Doda Ellahi, Ghamshad , Muzammil,and Mehraj Shad. On the night of Dec 9, 2024, these individuals were detained by Pakistani forces in d Hassan Square area of Karachi, Sindh,& subsequently disappeared.
