Anyway I have issues with WGSS just as a trans woman of color, but also my gosh WGSS scholars are just so bad at talking about stuff outside the purview of their field while being unafraid to make hilariously wrong sweeping statements.

You can't unsee it once you notice.

Yeah, it’s pretty obviously compliance in advance. As if we don’t need WGSS more than ever right now! Solidarity, Deidre — that’s awful.

Students feel like they can’t enroll in majors like Af-Am Studies and WGSS because they’re getting messages from all sides that they’re not remunerative. And yet they desperately want the knowledge, so classes are full. That seems to be the situation everywhere.
These are “low enrollment” majors but the classes are regularly at capacity. They changed the funding structure a few years ago here, switching the allocation from course enrollments to majors then blamed these departments for a structural, top-down change. This is entirely a political choice.
The closing of African American Studies and GWSS at Iowa is absolutely heartbreaking. It is such an important time to study these subjects. Words really cannot express how upsetting this decision is. www.thegazette.com/higher-educa...

Like ... do y'all know that Julia Serano is a biologist? That's her day job?

"Whipping Girl", the foundational text of modern transfeminism, is not actually a product of the queer academy!

We are actually utterly, totally locked out of WGSS! We kind of HAVE to do this communally, publicly!

But like, did y'all know that there's actually a fair amount of transmascs in the academy, specifically in WGSS?

If you didn't, it's because most of them spend a lot of time ... talking ABOUT transfems!

Not TO us. ABOUT us.

That, or they talk about transmascs as basically butch lesbians.

We are hiring in WGSS!
Thrilled to share that WGSS at SBU is hiring an Assistant Professor as part of the Native American & Indigenous Studies program. The appointment will be housed in WGSS, with courses & service expected to help grow the interdepartmental NAIS Initiative. More info👇

wgss, sociology, anthropology, English, rhetoric, philosophy always need more trans theory in general. but transfem theory? missing in action, foul play presumed

I've kind of stopped talking about it as much but the total shutout of trans women from WGSS, Queer and Trans Studies is also glaring, and is usually ignored by people who go "OH YEAH, WELL I'VE HEARD OF JULIA SERANO!"

Which is extra-funny because she's a biologist.

And you thought they’d stop by gutting WGSS and the humanities.

Stares in cancelling NIH study sessions.

Maybe we were all in this together more than you thought.

There's still time to register for Summer WGSS courses🌈🎓! WGSS 250 and WGSS 105 are now both asynchronous and WGSS 250 has been extended to a 6 week course. You don't need to be a currently enrolled undergraduate student at the University of Maryland to join. #academicsky #whatwheredc

I can’t tell you the number of letters of recommendation I’ve written for WGSS majors & minors going on to med school or other health professional schools. Obvs, they need science courses too, but their WGSS courses benefit them conceptually & pragmatically (& yes make their applications stronger).

Yep, in my 20 years of teaching WGSS, I can confirm that the WGSS major-to-badass-physician pipeline is a thing.

Gender Studies 101 from the chair of WGSS at Stony Brook.
“..WGSS asks questions, interrogates dominant assumptions and involves a great deal of debate and disagreement,” Montegary wrote. “In contrast, those opposing gender studies are the people imposing an ideology — enforcing strict gender and sexual norms — insisting on a singular definition of sex..”

Above all, I protect my peace. Many questions here about my work in WGSS or identities as a trans queer person aren’t sincere. But if you’re sincere, enroll in a WGSS course or buy a few books from your local indie bookshop. Trolls get immediately blocked. Blocking brings much joy.

Zasto? Zato jer su uspjeli otvoriti drugi WGSS💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

I wish someone would explain what "gender ideology" actually is. I taught in a WGSS program and I have zero clue what it is...besides right-wing propaganda.

Stunned by this news. I've long been an admirer of Durba Mitra's scholarship, her advocacy for the Schlesinger Library, and her vision for what WGSS history (and teaching!) can be. Harvard, of course, disagrees.

I often teach Bourdieu's HOMO ACADEMICUS in my WGSS teaching practicum grad seminar. I cut it this semester because there was so much contemporary work that I wanted to add, but I still think it's brilliant & relevant now. Here's my syllabus for Practicing WGSS.

there's this absurdly ridiculous phenomenon where trans women are effectively locked out of WGSS and queer studies, and even trans studies to a degree, but the transmasc presence provides NOTHING in terms of materialist analyses of their oppression either, so NOBODY WINS
