Yes. The government currently has no right to violate the free speech rights of anyone inside our borders, citizens or not. This has already been decided by SCOTUS in Bridges v Wixon, 1945.

This is a horrendous case, and I tend to be of the opinion Wixon should get life. It highlights a big issue with the way modern slavery and trafficking is often treated as an "immigration offence" though. Most victims, in UK, are UK citizens abused by UK citizens. 1/4

Mandy Wixon kept a mentally-impaired womanas a slave for 25yrs. Wixon's sentence: 13yrs. The victim was abused and starved during her enslavement. Why doesn't the BBC headline highlight the disparity between the crime and the sentence? Why does it refer to Wixon as "mother"?! #UKcrime #journalism

Thanks to @slate.com for allowing me to tell the story of radical lawyer Carol Weiss King and how her victory in Bridges v. Wixon protects the due process and free speech rights of noncitizens such as Mahmoud Khalil and Rumeysa Ozturk. slate.com/news-and-pol...
The Supreme Court Precedent That Should Free Mahmoud Khalil
Khalil's best hope going forward is to rely on a Supreme Court decision won by radical New York lawyer Carol Weiss King.

In Bridges v. Wixon (1945), SCOTUS ruled that an Australian could not be deported just for supporting the communist party:

“Freedom of speech and of the press is accorded aliens residing in this country... The literature published by Harry Bridges... were entitled to that protection.”

As horrifying as this is, and it really is, one of the biggest issues with treating trafficking and modern slavery as "immigration issues" is that they are not related to immigration. The most common victims in the UK are UK citizens exploited by UK citizens.

Wixon should get 25 years.

It seems only fair.

I'm not, in general, one of these people who thinks that prison is always the answer or that sentences should be longer, but in this case, I think the perpetrator should have a sentence at least as long as the period she enslaved her victim. 25 years minimum.

This is a horrific case of a young woman being held enslaved for 25 years. I hope the media emphasises she had a learning disability and her abuser had £100,000 of her benefits paid into her account. This is grotesque abuse - but also a scandalous state failure. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

This dissent's narrow reading of Bridges v. Wixon strikes me as very strained.
