With the rise of cable TV came something unexpected, the superstation. These were local stations that used new technology to reach far beyond their home markets. Some lasted for decades and produced some of the most interesting programming on early cable.

Some of us are pretty old now. I grew up with territories. Mine was the AWA. NWA wasn’t mine, but they were via cable tv at 6:05et every Saturday night on WTBS. Can’t thank them enough for those 2 hours, which were highly instrumental in growing my love for pro-wrestling. ✌🏻 #AEWDynamite

The weirdest "edited for TV" show was when WTBS aired "Cheech and Chong's Next Movie" and edited out all of the drug references. Whenever Chong, Cheech, and Cousin Red talked about selling weed, WTBS would cut the audio & put up a sign saying they were raising money for a playground. A lot shorter
