This thing where Russia seems content to run a 21st century regional war like it is straight-up WWI is, you know, real grim shit
Just napkin math on this, theres only like 30 million russian men 20-55. if you believe these numbers, just the drone force alone is taking 1% of that annually at that rate.

probably permanently killing or disabling 0.5%. And then theres the rest of the force
According to Magyar, he thinks the USF (Unmanned units of the UAF) will soon inflict like 1000~ casualties per DAY on Russians (up from 600-700 currently) and this is only 33-40% of the daily total casualties inflicted by the UAF. This is insane. They are losing 1 BATTALION A DAY.

Raging combat in the 1912 French film ABSALOM. Director Henri Andréani had ambitions of filming the entire Bible, including all the stabby bits that are usually glossed over, but WWI interfered and he only got as far as Esther.

One of the great privileges of my time at Queen's Mill in Castleford was leading the short service of remembrance at the Lock Lane, Castleford, WWI war memorial. They were super community occasions. As well as service personnel the memorial also remembers those munition workers etc who died.

If anybody is in the market for an artillery-themed drink, btw, the French 75 is the obvious choice - albeit one with a surprisingly vexed history in terms of its recipe:

I maintain the dim match flame of hope that I took from a Dan Carlin episode a number of years ago, about who would win in a war against each other, the WWI Kaiserliche Heer or the WWII Wehrmacht. His answer, eventually, was the WWI German army, and his reason was, basically, because: Nazis. (1/3)

staggering numbers. Those of us alive today have trouble grasping the scale of WWI.

we must not forget
On Nov. 6, 1917, the Canadian Corps captured Passchendaele, Belgium, succeeding where others had failed. It cemented Canada's reputation as an elite fighting force but the battle cost more than 4,000 Canadian lives, with almost 12,000 wounded. Nine earned the Victoria Cross.

#OTD On Nov 6-7, 1917, Lenin’s Bolsheviks launched an armed uprising in Petrograd, seizing key points to overthrow the government. Fueled by WWI and food shortages, the October Revolution nationalized land, pulled Russia from the war and triggered a civil war, culminating in the USSR in 1922.
