Warhol

Wasn’t convinced this should be on the CD, but it proved one of the most popular tracks.

10(!) bleak minutes of prog-C86: dolorous and overlong (obviously). Lyrics betray a lot / too much but the song is rescued by Andy’s propulsive drums and - of course - Howard’s echoing, raking guitars.

Allegation from a woman who knew Geller in college: "It was a square"
Geller: "Yes, there was a quadrilateral"
You: "We cannot prove the admitted quadrilateral was definitively a square"

Be for real, dumbass.

Michael Palm of UNC is doing a radio show tonight at 9pm on WXYC featuring music of our mutual friend Ian Knox who is having drastic health issues at the moment. I did the project KSE with him and Ellie Erickson (Erase Errata) in the mid 2010s. wxyc.org

How College Radio Shaped Alternative Music History
In the 1970s and 1980s, college radio stations, driven by student volunteers, nurtured underground music, giving rise to alternative music against corporate-driven commercial radio. Key stations like WUOG and WXYC promoted innovative acts, influencing the indie scene. By the early 1990s, college radio had established a vibrant ecosystem that led to mainstream success for many formerly underground artists.

I once had a special show on WXYC dedicated to guitar solos and I played this in it entirety.

I received so many (angry) calls.
Always fun to remember that this is the only album that Neil Young has ever released on his birthday.

h/t to Jose Zegarra Holder on FB (www.facebook.com/share/p/1EqC...) and to my freshman-year roommate, the chief engineer at WXYC, who nabbed a free copy after it was rejected for inclusion in the record library. I'd forgotten about the album, and am surprised to see that it received a CD release.

No one was there. Well, one guy (Steve Balcom) from my college station (WXYC Chapel Hill), a huge fan who helped out the band. Michelle greeted Chris, intros were made, and he lamented the absence of a crowd, asking if that was also her experience at her venue. It wasn’t. The place was packed.

@kevinmkruse.bsky.social In the middle of (spreads arms) all this, some things endure. Hope you’re good.

I had long hair in my rock n’ roll daze; I would cover it in a bandana while working and listen to WXYC-FM in the back of the restaurant where the sinks were, occasionally calling the request line in disguised voices to ask for songs by Other Bright Colors.
