Blink and you’d miss it - apparently this is a hummingbird hawk-moth, had never seen or heard of these before, spotted it in a garden in Wadhurst

Members recently enjoyed many kinds of damselflies and dragonflies on a recent trip to Wadhurst, including a flyby Norfolk Hawker - a species rapidly expanding in Sussex.

Next week I start a few things for Lyme Regis Fossil Festival so since I’m clearing the phone here’s one last video of the Wadhurst Clay display, based on the paper by @neilgostling.bsky.social @tetzoo.bsky.social and others referring to teeth from Tyrannosauroids, Spinosaurids and Dromaeosauridae

#MorningWalk was a very wet Groombridge to Wadhurst on the #SussexBorderPath. Much time off route including a loop around Crowborough and a couple of laps of Boarshead.

Beat my al time record today, 304 invertebrates identified in the field in a day's surveying. Could be 400 species when all the specimens are identified too. At Wadhurst Park. Did not expect to beat that today. Lots of goodies too, inc 9 species of longhorn beetle, Ogcodes, Eucera and more!

We used multiple methods to help identify theropod teeth from the Wadhurst Clay Formation of SE England, whose predatory dinosaur fauna has long remained enigmatic. Our results confirm an assemblage containing spinosaurs and dromaeosaurs, and we IDed tyrannosaurs for the first time in this unit.

232 field identifications yesterday at Ewhurst Park in four hours of intense recording of invertebrates the best day of the year so far. Including six species of longhorn beetle and thee records of Grammoptera ustulata from 3 compartments! (I also had one is East Sx at Wadhurst Park the day before!)

Looking for Early-purple Orchid (Orchis mascula) at a local spot. About a dozen plants on the path, but none in the surrounding wood, where there were thousands of them a few years ago
