Wadjda, where Haifaa al-Mansour had to do all the direction from inside a van.
I only saw Gloria Steinem in person once. This was at The Tribeca Film Festival, where she lead a conversation with Haifaa al-Mansour, the director of Wadjda, the first Saudi feature directed by a woman. Even in her late 70s, she was sharp and generous, while also changing the air in the room.

Wadjda est un beau portrait d’émancipation : chaque coup de pédale devient une conquête de liberté. Une œuvre touchante, même si son accessibilité m’a parfois renvoyé à mon regard confortable de cinéphile occidental.
