new zealand obviously has to massively increase its industrial capacity and defence spending but i guarantee you it won’t be this lot who will huff and puff about china and then refuse to even insulate army housing in waiouru

...for soldiers.

The houses in Waiouru date back to the 50s and are horrible.

Those pix however are of field accommodation.

Penk is lying.

Army recruits stationed at the camp have reported seeing shadowy figures at the end of their bunks at night, as well as sounds of tapping on their metal bunk frames. Faces have been seen outside the windows at night after curfew.

new zealand: declining maritime nation that cannot consent an extension of its busiest port, can’t insulate army housing in waiouru, has no naval supply ship, no onshore refining capability, no air force combat wing, a hollowed out industrial base with insufficient electricity generation, lol

NZ is a guilty partner to this attack on Venezuela. NZ's military helped the US bomb Yemen under Biden, trained US snipers in Waiouru last year, has maintained joint military/intel meetings & exercises with the US for years and has been talking up this partnership more than ever.

NZDF says numbers of Singaporean soldiers training at Waiouru are "confidential". And next month it'll probably be in Army News or something.

naturally they're flying to and from waiouru which necessitates flying only like a kilometre above a town and rattling everyone’s windows with your sonic booms i guess

And spending that money on the wrong roads to keep rich voters north of Wellington and in the Waikato happy while SH1 between Taupo and Waiouru remains an embarassment as a serious transport route - very scenic but still an embarassment...

National Army Museum Waiouru archivist Dolores Ho has retired after 31 years. As a fmr Trustee I wish to acknowledge that Dolores not only preserved our military history but her assistance to a legion of researchers ensured new generations were introduced to this history. Thank you for your service.

The on base accommodation is pretty good albeit with shared facilities.

The housing area for families needs to be burned down but that is on ALL govt's going back decades.

In 2008, I took the then commander for Waiouru to Puckapunyal where the ADF was replacing 80s housing as no longer suitable...

First of 2 charging stops was the sunny tourist hotspot of Z Waiouru. Took 22 minutes and cost $31, which would be pretty good for half a tank of petrol.

It was just enough time to use the toilets (there was a line, told you it was a tourist hotspot) and grab a coffee and we are now off again.

I think we need a camp David style political retreat here in NZ, Waiouru would be my preferred location and all coalition negotiations must take place there under the watchful eye of the gg and nzdf. Also all elections should occur in late June. ❄️❄️❄️

Also driving an EV north on SH1.
No such thing as anxiety about charger availability these days.
The big set up at Z Waiouru and the BP at Tīrau.
Too easy.
