Govt will reluctantly privatise the country's water systems while stories like this roll in during the year #nzpol
Waipukurau residents urged to conserve water, level 4 restrictions in place
There was a "real risk" Waipukurau could run out of water if residents don't cut back.

Awesome day in the field today chasing scarps related to the 1863 Waipukurau EQ with José Gonzalez-Alfaro. The EQ faulting eventually caused the avulsion of the Waipawa R in 1867

Either @rebeccamatthews.bsky.social is a more powerful water pipe leak tsar than anyone realised or water infrastructure woes aren't a result of Wellington City Council cycleways but rather a symptom of systemic issues with three waters infrastructure nationally 🤷‍♀️

From home, I can hear the whistle of the steam train that’s being used to transport people from Waipukurau to Ahuriri/Napier for the Art Deco Weekend.

Why are we are in 2025 when we still don’t have a daily train passenger service in our region? Clearly it’s possible but for the political will 🚂

A blown pipe caused water outages in parts of Waipukurau last night; the council warns these will become common as it halves spending. Jonathan Milne investigates.

I'm stoked to have delivered the Annual Art Deco science talk in Napier commemorating the 1931 Hawke's Bay quake and rebuild. #eqnz. This time focusing on the 1863 Waipukurau quake. Thanks also to @jhgurneyquakes.bsky.social for joining me

I wish all cities and towns had a rainbow crossing. Looking at you Waipukurau and Waipawa.
Amazing news this Pride Month! The case against Wellington’s Rainbow Crossing has failed at the High Court.

Proud to be Mayor of Aotearoa’s rainbow capital 🏳️‍🌈 #nzpol

A defining moment of my Grandma's youth. She was 15 and had whipped home from the Waipukurau District High School for some reason when it struck.

Quick, someone let a male sheep loose in New Word Waipukurau - NZ media will have a Field Day(s) claiming the store was RAM-RAIDED!!! (that's a two-for)
So now we have rats in Dunedin, Pigeons in Grey Lynn, and Muttonbirds halfway down Dominion Road...

Stuff really have sold out decent journalism to their property advertising owners, haven't they?

Waipukurau has TWO SUPERMARKETS!
So why do Stuff's headline writers make it sound like some isolated hick town?

We had two close in Waipukurau late 2025 and now another (an op shop) is closing because their rent is too high. Leaves room for another dollar or vape shop.
