#WaitStaff
Grulgor evicerated the waitstaff after slipping them a fiver to bring him a whole garlic chicken, with an extra hot flag, but in reality, they just brought him an extra hot chicken.

One of the things that finally got the ordinance passed in Chicago was drumming home the idea that waitstaff, cooks, buspeople and dishwashers were given no choice about being exposed to secondhand smoke every day. That got people’s attention.

Loudly mispronouncing every word on the menu, then accusing him of having flirted with the waitstaff, even and especially if our waiter was a man.

Ah I forget who it was, but someone on here had a thread a couple years ago of artwork that had a single subject looking back at the camera/viewer like that, always so much fun. :D

Expecting waitstaff get so many tips 😁

I think the idea is similar to Chinese restaurants – if the waitstaff is incredibly rude, the food is going to be off the hook

1/ I find your argument rather odd:

Aren't I also "depriving someone of a job" when I cook and serve my food at home instead of going to a restaurant and giving the chef and waitstaff jobs? In fact, aren't I depriving someone of a job anytime I choose to do anything for myself rather than paying

i think my sense of rudeness is very differently calibrated to others from US because i consider myself a huge baby about service providers being mean or rude to me (cutting comments, etc) but have never once found it annoying that waitstaff didn’t pay attention to or weren’t *especially nice* to me

For a second I thought that was their placemat.

Can you imagine going on a blind date at a restaurant that used those? Waitstaff is your DM. Instead of the day’s specials they give you the setup, pop back in occasionally to see how it’s going, throw a curveball and refill your drinks.

also sometimes one of the waitstaff will run down the street and drag in just a random passerby who speaks a little english to translate
September 27, 2026 at 11:24 PM
never before have I not wanted to eat somewhere because the “waitstaff was really weird in a bad way”

but I swear this restaurant always has the worst waitstaff lol

What drives the point home is the weekend when the Greek parents visit. They're 100% the worst human beings imaginable. Terrible to waitstaff, constantly roadraging.

For a second I thought in Rays-Phillies that we had a Tommy Pham sighting. False alarm. I’m sure ol’ TP is getting along fine down at the casino. Critiquing the waitstaff at Ruth’s Chris Jr., scribbling fantasy notes on square napkins, slapping the bartender for a perceived underpour

Years ago I walked out of Magnolia Cafe when Rove came in for breakfast. The waitstaff and the kitchen were as disgusted as I was and were debating whether to serve him. I don’t know if they did. I left.

No one is more intimately familiar with sub-human scum than Karl Rove.

Barman: is our usual convivial chat sounding a bit “off” today?
Barfly: hmm, you know, i concur!
Barmaid: wait, did a random burglar abscond with our most popular glyph?!
Waitstaff: oh no! who would do such a thing?
Patron: can anybody point out a culprit?
Oulipo: (slinks away)

Seriously, the DNC would do itself a lot of good if it implemented a rule that all pollsters, political consultants, etc, have to spend four consecutive weeks out of every year working in either waitstaff or retail.

Me when the waitstaff puts in an order for a "BLT, no onion"
I’d better sub, lest the police get me!

(First time I drove down the cape and saw a Sandwich police car, I was most amused!)

3 things waitstaff do better than Silicon Valley guys:
🧠 read a room without an algorithm,
🔥 handle a crisis without a strategy meeting,
📊 optimize in real time without a $40M Series A

Singing waitstaff! I hear they do this at the Macaroni Grill.

This story is harrowing, but the local upstate NY college bar's claim that they didn't serve anyone underage is bigger bullshit than anything Donald Trump has said in the last decade. Sure, Jan, your waitstaff told 19 year olds with money hard no. And I've got a unicorn making donuts in my garage.

I bet I know exactly how you treat retail workers and waitstaff
I’m sorry, but if you bring an iced coffee - or any damn beverage at all - to a job interview, you’re disqualified. It’s not hard, people.

If I see someone treating waitstaff like shit, I automatically know they’re MAGA.

I can turn invisible... however it only works on restaurant waitstaff.
