NoMa report: Roads are plowed. Bikeways kinda ok.

We are a walkable city - why not prioritize walking and transit access?? People in wheelchairs, strollers, walkers, or with little kids are pretty much homebound and it's 100% avoidable. #bikedc #walkdc

Volunteers posted 300 signs for traffic fatalities dating back to 2015, when Mayor Bowser first adopted Vision Zero by 2024. Posting signs was a powerful reminder of the human cost behind these numbers. Many of these intersections feel just as deadly as ever.

J is absolutely right in this thread! A suit should be brought against the city to force ADA compliance on this street (and a woonerf seems like the easiest possible solution). Our kiddo’s doctors are in the building next door—when it was icy, this was a really scary sidewalk to traverse! #WalkDC

would've loved to ask if @janeese4dc.bsky.social has any proposals or plans to make the new LGBTQ Center in Shaw accessible—I've been trying to point out since its location was first announced that the sidewalks on that street aren't remotely ADA-compliant.

This group has zero standing in the community other than being a known squeaky wheel - which means they show up and speak loudly at every possible public meeting, hearing, etc.

So to #bikeDC and #walkDC: we all need to show up to these events as well. But there's more to it than just showing up. 2/

I could take a million pictures, but the pedestrian environment inside the Washington Hospital Center/VA/Children’s campus is awful. This should all be sued into oblivion. #walkDC
Corner of 1st St NW and one of the internal streets next to Washington Hospital Center. There are no painted crosswalks, missing stop signs, none of the lane lines are still there. Total mess.

I don't know about you, but I would certainly walk 13,286 steps and 5.66 miles to get to Capitol Hill bookstore! I did that today. And why not? It's one of my favorite bookstores and the walk has so much to see along the way.

Years ago, I recall somebody referring to the stretch of Mass Ave from Union Station to Mt Vernon Square as the Mediocre Mile. How it still just sucks in basically all the same ways so many years is beyond frustrating. There are literally major N-S cycletracks at either end… and yet #bikedc #walkdc
