Astra - wenn man Dürst hat! : advert issued by : Bavaria -und St. Pauli Brauerie : Hamburg : in : Verkehrsplan mit 15 Wandertips : Hamburger Hochbahn Aktiengesellschaft - HHA : 1963. On what is yet another record breaking day of heat here in Yorkshire; a cooling glass of German lager. It forms the back cover of the 1963 Verkehrsplan mit 15 Wandertips issued by local transport operator Hamburger Hochbahn Aktiengesellschaft - HHA. The beer, Astra, was the barnd name for the products of the local Bavaria -und St. Pauli Brewery. a company formed by merger in 1922. The brewery acquired various other North German brewers over the decades until it was itself acquired in 1994 by Brau und Brunnen. The Hamburg brewery and Astra brand was acquired by the then Holsten concern in 2003; there appears to have been some saga concerning the actual brewery itself that was closed upon acquisition and demolished in the years after 2003. The strapline - Astra - wenn man Dürst hat! - roughly translates as "Astra - when you're thirsty!". This appears in white script lettering to the right side of a foaming tulip stem glass of lager bier; the Astra title appears in a bold red box across the top of the advert that is wholly on a blue background.
