News article: Call of the Sea Four British boys heard the call of the sea. They answered it-and stepped into yesterday's news. NINE-YEAR-OLD Denis Pike, of Watcombe-road, Southbourne, is so keen on ships that he always carries a model ship and a compass about in his pocket. His father went to London to seek work. Denis decided to go to Southampton to see the Queen Mary arrive. He only had sixpence, so he walked thirty miles. Southampton police yesterday found a bright little lad, with bare knees, no hat, no overcoat, sleeping in a makeshift shed which he had built himself at the docks. The police gave him breakfast as he had had nothing to eat since leaving home. Denis got en such good terms with the police that he was soon trying on their helmets at the station. A distracted father reached Southampton only to find Denis more than ever anxious to see the giant liner. So they saw the Queen Mary together. "This beats them all," said Denis. After a high tide lots of seaweed has washed up on the beach, small amount of green water can be seen in the top left and the bottom of some trees

A walk in #Devon yesterday, to get out of my own head while I wait to hear what #cancer treatment is on offer. #Maidencombe first, along the SW coastal path then onto #Watcombe before ending the trip with a slow walk up to #Haytor. 13.5 km. I love Devon, it's other-worldy.

A photograph of a large two-handled pottery mug (great for your Cornish cider!). It has a creamy white background, asked around the wide central band are delicate swirls of white on dusky blue, with intricate patterns of black paint, used to resemble a lanscape of bare branches of trees and shrubs silhouetted against the breezy sky. This is a typical method of Boscastle studio, but each piece is stunningly unique, none ever the same. A photograph of two York Rose studio mugs, one a creamy buff colour glaze, and the other a deep conker brown glaze. They both have a protruding motif of the Tudor rose, both mugs' motifs, handkes and bases highlighted in the same terracotta colour of the underneath. A photograph taken of a commercial tea setting, of a larger cake plate, a smaller biscuit plate, a saucer, and a tea cup. The pattern is in orangey autumnal colours of flowers, I think chrysanthemums, and darker silhouettes of other vine-like leaves here and there. It is all highlighted with gold gilt, and the inner centre of the tea cup is white, with small sprigs of matching flowers around the inner rim for added interest. A screenshot of one of my photo albums, showing various sides of a Watcombe pottery jam pot. It is shaped like a bulbous soup bowl, with a chunky rounded protruding handle coming out at an angle. The picture on one side is of a large black cockerel with reddish orange comb, swishing on green grass next to the word "Morning". "Morning, cock". Hahahaha. On the other side of the pit is hand written, "Take a Little Jam" in reddish orange, over the same green grass that the cockerel is standing on. There is also a round lud with a little cutaway for a jam spoon, and it's decorated with rings of white, blue and reddish orange. The underneath sides the terracotta clay, glazed over, and etched into appears to be, "Watcombe England 73".

That's nice. Spread my dad's ashes on newbiggin beach 18 months ago, and that was somewhere he went a lot with the dog as it seemed less crowded. There's always quiet spots when you know where to look. Watcombe Beach here in torbay is good for that coz it's hidden and no one wants to walk down there
