Before seeing those Chinese vortex vests, I didn't even know you could actually drop temperature that way (more than just ventilating, which is also what neither icepack nor watercooling would do).

Concentrated cooling, icepack or watertube: neckgaiter, wristband, ankleband.

The same combo designed & built 11117-39 S. Longwood Dr. Here is a wonderfully detailed list of what went into these buildings, from the Suburban Economist in 1929. I bet that steam boiler is still going.

However it was the US market where Caprotti ran into the most problems. In original form, it made more rounds than Lentz, but benefits were rarely shown. Valve springs were suspected as a flaw, but the most commonly cited problem was the gear not being adapted for US tonnage.
Builder's photo of ATSF 3764 in 1929. The only 4-8-4 to my knowlege with Caprotti valve gear in any form. An add-on to Reading's rebuilt Mallets was K1sc 3010. The only 2-10-2 and perhaps the largest loco with Caprotti valve gear. This loco wasn't a particular success, but held its Caprotti gear the longest of any US loco. From construction in 1929 to replacement with Walschaerts in 1942. Driveshaft hidden, though I'm unsure which axle was actually driven. Looking very British for an engine named "President Cleveland," B&O P-9 is a one-off version of its P-7 'President' class. Its clean lines were complimented by a watertube boiler and Caprotti valve gear. Note the forward placement of the steam pipe compared to the previous Lentz examples. Perhaps the most infamous US Caprotti loco is PRR 5699. A one-off of the already small (in number) K5 class, the use of Caprotti was meant to offer more power. At ~58,000 lbs tractive effort it was staggering, compared to 5698 which utilized piston valves and Walshaerts gear, but also Limited Cutoff, yeilding a slightly weaker ~54,600 lbs. Arturo Caprotti himself examined 5699 at work to assess the problems experienced, to which he claimed "Your locomotives don't pull trains. They pull houses!" Alluding to the increased tonnage of US trains, which his gear wasn't designed for, and wasn't suitably adapted for.
