look at this charming tauhou / waxeye nest found under a tree, presumably blown out or dislodged by a possum.

Guys! A little Waxeye (Silvereye) flew in through my open door and landed on the curtain rail. I felt like a Disney Princess holding it in my hand.
I know it looks stressed here. I only paused for half a second to take the photo then put it on a post outside. It flew away a few seconds later.

Something from the archives? Why not! I took this tauhou (waxeye/silvereye) shot in November 2023 when the harakeke around my local stormwater catchment was out in bloom. It’s an image that marks the start of my adventures in low-key photography. 🪶🇳🇿

For those curious about the painting process, first I use a watercolour marker to sketch the design, and then paint a thin layer to start with. Then build up the colors, shades and finally, the highlights. Here's a waxeye I've been working on.

Heard a thunk on the door. Wee tauhou looking stunned outside. Took a few photos because I have a felting project I want to do with them, and the references are handy. Just flew back off again.
