#WeReadsComics
I haven't done #WeReadsComics in a while, so i don't know if that's still a thing, but I'm really digging Nights by Wyatt Kennedy and Luigi Formisano right now. I'm almost done with volume 1 already. Dark but fun sci-fi fantasy with solid writing and art. Can't wait to see the animated series.

Marvel has a chance to woo me back onto some books this NCBD. Looking forward to Doom and, though I've never been a Cable fan, thought they nailed it in issue 1. @jason-aaron.bsky.social always gets a look, and the Big 3 Absolute titles have been consistently fantastic. #wereadscomics

My nephew bought me a #Manga for my birthday and totally opened my eyes..i've been reading comics for over 3 decades and had never read a single Manga. Well, the floodgates have opened now - I consumed 9(!!) volumes of Chainsaw Man in one week. It's a masterpiece. #wereadscomics!!!

I finished THIEF OF THE HEIGHTS by @bogboogie.bsky.social and @slimyhipster.bsky.social over my lunch break today, and gosh it's spectacular. An amazing, hopeful story about justice, friendship, and revolution. Both futuristic and entirely too present. Read it now. #WeReadsComics

And this one is basically @whattheshea.bsky.social's fault and I mean that in the BEST way. FIRE & ICE is weird, fun, and one of the best superheroic friendship stories I've read in a long time. Pick it up if you haven't read it yet. #WeReadsComics

Okay, two more #WeReadsComics recs for today and then I'll try to keep up on a weekly basis. (Operative word: try. 😅)

I loved this anthology by @tocomix.bsky.social. So many good short comics, such a range of feelings. Also, I *love* stories where the setting is a character.

And WEIRDO by Tony Weaver Jr. and @jesncin.bsky.social is a perfect story about being the geeky kid, finding your place and learning what it means to be a hero in real life. It's a beautiful read. #WeReadsComics

I'm also going to drop two graphic novels on the hashtag, because I've been devouring these MG reads.

KNOTS by @colleenfrakes.bsky.social is about middle school and complicated families and carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders and it made me tear up in a good way. #WeReadsComics

For my first #WeReadsComics recommendation, HOUSE OF HARKNESS is a delight. I love @runwithskizzers.bsky.social's take on Wanda and Jodi Nishijima's art is a joy. You can check out the first six issues here!
Oh dang!

If you've been waiting to check out HOUSE OF HARKNESS, the first *six* issues are available to read right now over on Marvel!

No registration necessary!

I read Heartstopper Vol. 1 by Alice Oseman last night and I wanted to be a hater because its fanbase is… very aggressive sometimes, but dang, it was really sweet and charming. #WeReadsComics

Forgot the #WeReadsComics tag, whoops! I blame the Tramadol.

Okay, time to sit on the couch, catch up on the Mignolaverse, listen to Tom Waits' Blue Valentine, and watch the snow.

Ultra Heaven V1 from @lastgaspbooks.bsky.social. PW described it as PKD does Akira and they're right.

For #wereadscomics, here's Helen Of Wyndhorn #6 of 6. Ms. Evely's pencils are stunning, possibly the highlight of any week that new work from her debuts.

#WeReadsComics Books I look forward to that'll hopefully arrive in 2024:

-Ultra Heaven v1. It appears to be a wild drug fueled manga with gorgeous pencils that stunned me instantly. (1, 2)
-Legend Of Luther Arkwright. Anti-fascist multiverse trotting spy comic in the vein of Moorcock. (3)

My other #WeReadsComics rec is the spotlight on one of my criminally slept on favs, 'Zatanna: Bring Down the House' is one of those that reminds me why I love comics.

Will go down as one of the best books of this age. Tamaki and Rodriguez are magic, get in before it ends its 5 issue run next month

Learned that #WeReadsComics was a thing thanks to @kierongillen.bsky.social so here's what I've read and/or reviewed this week.

On Monday i have read the Last Mermaid by Derek Kirk Kim, bought the trade after reading the first issue on Global Comix and was totally blown away by it.

It’s about a mermaid and her axolotl companion in a mech suit wandering through a post apocalyptic wasteland.

A bunch of stuff I'm looking forward to reading this week, but I've been really waiting for the final to GROMMETS that dropped. #WeReadsComics

Looking for a good book for my niece (who is an unconfident reader, as I was at her age) I found the MOST charming thing and ended up getting a copy for myself...

Detective Beans And the Case of the Missing Hat

Absolute Martian Manhunter #1 is visually stunning even by @javierrodriguez.bsky.social’s standards, and also “Martian” in the Craig Raine sense. And yeah, as I’d heard, you want to read it in physical form. @denizcamp.bsky.social is having a serious annus mirabilis. #wereadscomics

Exceptional X-Men #4, by @eveewing.bsky.social and @carmencarnero.bsky.social, feels very Krakoan, both in the plot threads sliding over from other X-titles and in the way it's directly addressing the aftershocks of Krakoa. Impressive character acting (body language, faces), too. #wereadscomics
December 26, 2024 at 8:49 PM
Metamorpho #1, by @stevelieberart.bsky.social and @al-ewing.bsky.social, is playful and frothy and basically everything I wanted it to be. Extra points for Ferran Delgado's lettering, in the mode of Stan Starkman--deep cut! #wereadscomics

Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre #2, by Tom Scioli, is magnificently silly. #WeReadsComics
