#Wealth
For someone who grew up with wealth, Donald Trump has the taste of a hillbilly who just won the lottery.

Canada’s 40 billionaires increased their wealth by $95 billion last year. At a time of unprecedented wealth inequality, it’s unacceptable that this budget contains no new measures to make the very richest pay their fair share.

Some Dems opposed the Cali billionaire tax because they say state-level wealth taxes don't work.

Fine. Push a national wealth tax, right now. Besides being absolutely necessary, it's a great way to show who's full of shit before the presidential primaries.

Properly scaled wealth tax like after the Great Depression, and NOW
Now that Bluesky is the official social media app representing the popular will of the United States of America™️, what is our first cultural decree?

Musk is also structurally dependent on the US government for his wealth in the way none of the others are.

they should implement media reform so that news outlets aren't so easily exploited by the comms teams of uninteresting people who use their wealth to purchase relevance

Hey Canadians! The leader of the NDP is circulating a petition calling for a wealth tax. You know you want to sign it. Let's get together and make the Westons and the Rogers squirm!

Eat the rich. Elbows up.
November 7, 2026 at 12:11 AM
Does this press gallery reporter honestly not understand the difference between income and wealth?
Pretty funny how the NDP wealth tax proposal is blowing this reporter’s mind.

It’s not a tax on income — it’s a tax (starting at just 1%!!!) on people who are worth at least TEN MILLION dollars!

Even if you’re a home owner, I doubt your house is worth ten million.

Ban AI, like just straight up make that shit illegal, strip Sam Altman of all his wealth and assets and redistribute all of it to artists and libraries and musicians
What's your most ridiculous, newly emboldened political demand?

If we want an affordable America, we need to take on the crooks, the ceos, and the Trump family who are stealing everyone’s wealth, and making themselves richer.

That’s why we’ve called for a wealth tax on the very richest that could generate up to $40 billion per year.

Corporations and governments regularly loot the entire assets of poor people and no one raises an eyebrow.

But suggest laying a hand on billionaires' wealth and people clutch their pearls.

As Lucy Parsons said, "Never be deceived that the rich will permit you to vote away their wealth."
The bad news is Californian voters rejected the billionaire tax.

Billionaires spent more than $300m to lobby against it.

The fourth highest opposition funder was Irish multi-billionaire Patrick Collison who donated $33m to the cause.

The tax was to fund food assistance, healthcare, education.

If the net wealth of the median American - $200,000.00 US - were represented by a single grain of rice

the wealth of Donald Trump would be a ten pound bag of rice

the wealth of Elon Musk would be a 50 pound bag of rice

and the amount spent by Elon Musk in the 2026 midterms:

2 cups.

Personal wealth cap. Anything an individual accumulates over 1 billion USD can not belong to them.

“And [Musk] is eminently breakable. For one thing, for all his wealth and power he is just one doughy 55-year-old bag of shit, and a deeply mediocre one at that, who long ago exhausted his one actual skill—self-promotion—and has been coasting on the gravitational effects of his wealth ever since.”
November 5, 2026 at 5:04 PM
Musk must be held accountable.

We cannot let his massive wealth protect him.

He must be judged equally under the law.
Two studies—one by Brooke Nichols (at BU) & the other by Charles Kenny & Justin Sandefur (at CGD)—both point to roughly the same mass death outcome:

Musk’s killing of USAID (which he called “feeding USAID into the woodchipper”) led to about 700,000 deaths within one year (of whom 500,000 were kids)
That’s the thing. DOGE didn’t dot any i’s or cross any t’s.

They ransacked the govt illegally, destroyed careers, got many people killed, then burned all the documents on the way out the door.

Demanding criminal investigations — including of libertarian-god-king Elon — is the moderate position.
